Hair Washing & Drying Myths

From dandruff causing hair loss to using vinegar to treat oily tresses, there have been and still are countless myths circulating about hair care at any given time – and most of us probably still believe them to be true! Luckily, you have Hair Clinic International on your side to help straighten things out…

Washing your hair with cold water makes it shinier

If you often force yourself to endure a cold shower just to achieve shiny Johnny Depp or Jennifer Aniston-esque locks, we’re sorry to tell you that it has all been in vain. The only thing that a burst of cold water can do is leave you shivering and possibly constrict the blood capillaries in your scalp (which are responsible for delivering blood and nutrients to each strand of hair).

For shinier hair, do yourself and your locks a favour by relying on a good quality conditioner instead.

Your shampoo will only provide desired results for a certain period of time

Many believe that your hair actually ‘gets used to’ a certain shampoo and that, because of this ‘fact’, it will eventually stop working as well as it did when you first started using it. This isn’t the case. The real reason behind this phenomenon is that your hair’s needs tend to change over time, especially if you have recently cut it, had it coloured etc.

The changing seasons can also lead to changes in your hair and its requirements. In short, your shampoo still works the same. However, it might just not be the right shampoo for your needs any longer and this is where a good hair consultant comes into play!
No matter what you do, blow drying your hair will always lead to damage

Yes, while blow drying your hair every day will indeed cause damage over time, there are ways in which to blow dry that will help to avoid the formation of severe split ends and hair thinning. For example, waiting until your hair is 70% dry can help limit the effects of the heat, as will keeping your hairdryer at least 15cm away from your scalp. For best results allow our professional Hair Stylist to advise and assist with all your hairdressing needs.

If you have noticed that your crowning glory just isn’t what it used to be, it might be time to take action in the form of hair restoration therapy. For a free consultation or more advice on ensuring better hair care, do not hesitate to get in touch with Hair Clinic International.
