PRP Therapy and Laser Treatments

PRP Therapy and Laser Treatments: Will It Work for You?

The world takes hair loss seriously. We feel it acutely, of course, as we’re on the front lines combating hair loss. We see the emotional effects of this physical condition day-in and day-out. But, we’re not the only ones with a stake in changing the way hair loss affects sufferers.

There is a global community of researchers, scientists, volunteers, technicians, and funding bodies all committed to alleviating the effects of hair loss – and stopping it in its tracks, where possible. As such, treatments and procedures are progressing rapidly.

It may seem as though there is a new treatment every time you sit at your computer to determine what’s happening on top of your head. There isn’t, of course, but we can see how anyone would think that. After all, the science is moving swiftly.

Today, there are many surgical and non-invasive procedures to choose between, and this is made more complex by the combination of treatments, such as PRP Therapy combined with Laser treatments.

Understanding PRP Therapy and Laser Treatments

PRP stands for Platelet-Rich Plasma; the therapy using PRP is non-invasive though it does involve the use of needles. Blood is extracted from a patient and inserted into laboratory equipment to separate the plasma and nutrient-rich elements of the blood. This is then reintroduced to the patient via injections into the affected area.

Laser treatments, on the other hand, are completely non-invasive means of reversing hair loss (and, hopefully, triggering new hair growth). Specialised lasers are aimed at affected areas to boost or trigger the mechanisms in the hair follicle responsible for hair growth.

Could These Combined Therapies Work for You?

PRP and laser therapies work to halt or reverse certain types of hair loss. But, they aren’t right for everyone. Once the hair follicles are damaged beyond repair, they are incapable of producing new growth.

But, with many types of hair loss, hair follicles have simply become dormant. They require nutrients to repair themselves and something to trigger that process. That’s precisely what PRP and Laser therapies combined can offer. And, although some patients may only need one or the other to get their hair back into growth phases, the combined treatments provide faster, and often more stable, results.

However, you won’t know whether PRP, Laser, or surgical procedures are necessary to reverse your hair loss without an examination of your hair follicles. In some cases, a small biopsy may be required so technicians can get a closer look at what’s happening at the follicular level. This may not always be necessary. However, one thing is certain – you cannot determine the type of hair loss you’re experiencing on your own. Even if your parents suffered from hair loss, you might have another condition altogether.

And don’t worry; being on the front lines in the war against hair loss, we’ve truly seen it all.
